FAQs about Dance
1. What should I wear? A: Casual clothing which allows freedom of movement and supportive shoes (soft leather soles are preferred but alternatively something that won’t grip or slip easily on a wooden floor). Dance shoes are available for sale in the studio showroom, but an appointment must be made for fitting assistance. Competitive dancers are required to wear dance shoes. 2. Do I need a partner? A: Classes are structured so that partners are not required. You will however have to learn to partner or be partnered so at times we rotate and make dances progressive to develop this skill. 3. How long will it take to learn a dance? A: The answer to this question obviously depends on ability and skill as well as quality. Classes are structured to encourage repetition and detailing through which understanding and skill is achieved.
At a Beginner level, simple basic choreography performed up to speed with ease of movement is our aim. Two dances in a 10 week term is usually attainable.
At Intermediate to Advanced level, more advanced choreography is introduced and a deeper understanding of fundamentals is encouraged. Usually one dance is focused on for a 10 week term.
4. What are the pathways for someone who’s keen to develop further? A: Our studio provides several options for clientele:
  • Beginners Classes in Latin and Ballroom
(Children and Teens do composite classes).
  • Intermediate to Advanced Classes in Latin, Ballroom and New Vogue
(Children and Teens do composite classes).
  • Social dances and functions at which to practise.
  • Dance Assessments held twice a year in which examiners provide feedback for further development
(all Children and Teens are encouraged to follow the Dance Assessment format) .
  • Private lessons for more specific development as an individual or a couple from a variety of teachers of varying qualifications.

  • Competitive Practice Session held once a week in Ballroom and Latin as well as New Vogue upon request.
